At the end of May, Bulgaria’s parliament ratified two international agreements for trans-Balkan oil pipelines. The other, with Russia and Greece, concerned a 280km pipeline from Bourgas to the Greek town of Alexandropolis on the northern coast of the Aegean.

Big Promises from VMRO-DPMNE, Great Expectations Among Citizens

The team that is coming to power in Macedonia plans a completely different economic policy than the one currently in place. The rigid economising and strict monetary discipline and fiscal policy favoured by the Social Democrats will likely give way to increased public consumption. This may be good news for companies and citizens. But will VMRO-DPMNE leader Nikola Gruevski be able to deliver on his pledges?

Mass Gasification Ahead For Macedonia

For almost ten years now, the Macedonian gas pipeline has been used at only
ten percent of its capacity. Instead of transporting gas, the energy
substance of the future, it has been used to “transfer” arguments over ownership
between the state and the biggest oil company in Macedonia,
<a href = "http://www.makpetrol.com.mk/" target = "_blank">Makpetrol</a>. However,
the long lasting dispute seems to be entering its final stage.
